Track Night in America is a non-competitive, no-stress, entertaining, easy and inexpensive way for nearly anyone who loves cars or motorsports to get on a real racecourse in their own vehicle during weeknights. All that is required is that participants be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and have access to an approved helmet and street car in good working condition.
No previous on-track experience or SCCA membership is required to join in the fun. Drivers participate in the Advanced, Intermediate or Hawk Novice Experience group so on-track activities remain fun for all, and everyone gets three 20-minute sessions on course – as well as feedback from SCCA driver coaches on site. Admission is free for people who just want to stop by and watch the fun, and leisurely circuit parade laps are provided for all Track Night in America guests.

The Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) is an annual track competition that is held on grand prix or road style closed courses. This unique style of solar car racing is open to teams from around the world and truly tests the limits of the vehicles in handling curves, braking, and acceleration. On years when the American Solar Challenge (ASC) is held, FSGP serves as the qualifier event for this competition. Teams must successfully complete FSGP to prove their vehicles before they are allowed to start the cross-country ASC journey. The racing strategy applied during the three day FSGP track event is different than the cross-country ASC event. Driver training, passing strategy, and quick pit stops are crucial for teams racing in FSGP. It’s also essential to have a diligent team member in the timing booth and follow all of the rules of the track to ensure all laps get counted.
The winner of FSGP is determined by the total number of laps completed over the three days of racing. The team that completes the fastest single lap around the track is also recognized in the awards ceremony. If your university is interested in entering the next FSGP competition, please download the regulations for the event and start the event registration process.
The Formula Sun Grand Prix is not in any way associated or affiliated with the Formula 1 companies, FORMULA 1 racing, or the FIA Formula One World Championship.
Spectators are welcome to come out and see these incredible, solar powered cars FREE of charge!

Karting is an excellent training for drivers wanting to pursue higher forms of racing as a career and many kart racers have gone on to professional car racing such as SCCA, Indycar, NASCAR, and Formula 1. In fact when watching F1 on television you will often hear Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton refer to their days of karting with great fondness. While we love that about karting, the primary emphasis of K.A.R.T. is on the camaraderie and family atmosphere of kart racing.
