FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 4/2/19
Fans attending this year’s Menards NHRA Heartland Nationals presented by Minties on Sunday, June 9, 2019 will witness former Kansas City Chiefs running-back, Christian Okoye, being recognized as Grand Marshall of the event. Known as the “Nigerian Nightmare” throughout his playing career, Okoye will help kickoff racing eliminations when Top Fuel Dragsters and Nitro Funny Cars take to the track at 300+ mph.
Okoye held the NFL rushing title in 1989 and made two Pro Bowl appearances during his 6-year playing career with the Kansas City Chiefs. Inductions into the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inspired his founding of the California Sports Hall of Fame, which he is President of today. Okoye continues to be active as a Kansas City Chiefs Ambassador and supports many of their projects.
The Chiefs Ambassadors are working with Heartland Motorsports Park at this year’s NHRA race in Topeka Kansas to raise funds for charity. A new Ambassadors VIP hospitality tent has been added for fans to purchase single day or weekend passes, on top of race admission. Proceeds from the VIP tent will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City. Fans who purchase a pass to the VIP tent on Saturday or Sunday will have access to meet, get autographs, and take pictures with former Chiefs players. The Ambassadors VIP tent will be located near the starting line and will have food and beverages provided each day. There are a limited number of VIP passes available, so fans are encouraged to contact Heartland Motorsports Park at (785) 861-7899 to secure theirs.
Discount admission tickets for each day of the Menards NHRA Heartland Nationals presented by Minties, June 7-9, 2019 are currently on sale at participating Menards stores throughout Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa. Fans can also purchase race tickets at NHRA.com or by calling (800) 644-4444.
